Colston's Primary - road safety

Local residents have now been sent a copy of the proposed road safety works around Colston's Primary School on the junction of Cotham Park North and Redland Grove.

The map left shows the detail, but the essential plan that I have been helping parents to broker is to double yellow lines on the junctions on either end of Cotham Park North, plus a stretch on the northern side of Redland Grove to act as a drop-off point.

There will also be new disabled parking bays and the existing yellow zig-zags will be made mandatory (the law has only just changed to allow this), so that the Police can enforce it properly.

I'm very hopeful that these plans will make a big difference to pedestrian safety, especially for the children. It establishes some clear crossing points, while acknowledging that the unique catchment area of the school means that some parents will always drive and need somewhere safe to drop-off their children.

Great that these restrictions are being put in place but they dont seem to extend very far.

Also they then need to be policed.

An example is HArtfield Avenue where double yellows have been put in to allow passing places and fire access to Cotham School - the lines have worn off and everyone ignores them.

Just putting yellow lines down doesnt mean that it is always seen through and policed.

Keep up the good work.

PZZZ - they are very limited and deliberately so to ensure that they can be done quickly. More road safety stuff will be hitting Cotham when it gets its 'turn' for yellow lining corners etc. This should be in the next two years - or sooner in some parts if the RPZ progresses.

Police are lined up to help with enforcement when the changes are made, although yellow lines tend to enforce themselves - though not always, obviously!

I'll check up about the Hartfield Avenue yellows and getting them repainted. Thanks for the heads-up...
